Unified members who work in a Corrections work location are being reminded to take advantage of the second opportunity to indicate their interest in transferring to the Correctional Bargaining Unit, now that recent amendments to the Crown Employees Collective Bargaining Act, 1993 (CECBA) have made a standalone Corrections collective agreement a reality.
Members in the Unified bargaining unit working in a Corrections work location are being asked to vote YES or NO to the following:
Do you want to have your position transferred out of the Unified bargaining unit and into the Correctional bargaining unit, effective January 1, 2018?
The information gathered in this vote will help the Executive Board make an informed decision about the ratification of a recent agreement in principle reached with the government about expanding the Correctional bargaining unit.
An information package about a January 23-24 phone-in vote on the scope of the Corrections Bargaining Unit was mailed to all eligible signed-up Unified members working in correctional workplaces, both in institutions and in the community. This includes full-time, part-time, and fixed-term (unclassified) members, as well as those on leave or secondment.
If you believe you are eligible to vote, but you have not received the information package, please call the toll-free, third-party hotline 1-855-537-3543 on Friday, January 20 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and again on January 23 and 24 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Strategic Communications Inc. (Stratcom) is the independent, external third party conducting this secret‑ballot, phone-in vote. This is the same company that conducted the December 2015 votes.
When you cast your ballot, the information goes directly to Stratcom. They will send only the aggregate numbers by category to OPSEU. In other words, no member names will be disclosed or provided to OPSEU.
If a single category contains only a few members, possibly making it easier to identify any one individual or group of individuals, Stratcom will group them together and place them into a larger category. This will further ensure confidentiality.
