PSW members learned the basics of strategizing, organizing, telling your own story and taking effective action in your community. By the third week, the OPSEU/SEFPO participants in the course met virtually outside of class time to create a group where all citizens can come together, learn about the PSW staffing crisis, and organize for change.
That core group of members formed the PSW Champions Alliance. Here are the YouTube videos they created:
Despite being short-staffed, exhausted and pulled in a million directions in their working lives, OPSEU/SEFPO PSWs Nancy C., Cynthia H., Anna Z. and Tina O. worked hard in their spare time to get their messaging out to the public. Also working on this project are OPSEU/SEFPO’s PSW Advocate/Researcher Laura Bulmer, and Caroline Tachejian, PSW Professor at Seneca College.
The Institute for Change Leaders was founded by Olivia Chow in 2016, and teaches the skills that organizers need to win social change. The training our members took through the ICL was funded by OPSEU/SEFPO.
