Hello and welcome to your first Bargaining Bulletin for your upcoming round, which promises to be very different from any that you and your bargaining team have ever faced.
There will be challenges for sure. But behind every challenge lies incredible opportunity – by bargaining strong now, you can seize those opportunities.
Thanks to solidarity you’ve all shown with your divisional and local executives and your health and safety committees, you helped ensure that your workplaces were made as safe as possible against COVID-19.
And now going into bargaining, you have the opportunity to build on what we’ve learned from the pandemic, and the government’s direction on privatization, and make real improvements in everything from job security to health and safety.
Your resolve gives strength to your bargaining team members. The more support you show them, the better contract they’ll be able to negotiate.
It’s absolutely vital that you stay up-to-date on the latest from the table, and that you and your co-workers do everything you can to back your bargaining team.
Please makes sure that all of your of your coworkers are keeping up-to-date, too.
Send them this bulletin if they haven’t received it themselves. And encourage them to send us their latest personal contact info so they don’t miss any of the bulletins to come.
As always, you can count on the full support of OPSEU/SEFPO’s 170,000 members every step of the way.
You’re all front-line heroes.
On behalf of all Ontario: Thank you.
In solidarity,
Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU/SEFPO President
Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida, OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer
Notice to Bargain served
2020 was a tough year for LCBO workers. As COVID-19 cases continue to rise and we prepare to go into one of our most unusual and high-stakes rounds of bargaining ever, 2021 could be even tougher.
Our very safety is at stake. And so is maintaining public alcohol sales in the province.
On Jan. 8, your bargaining team filed the official “Notice to Bargain” with the employer and has requested bargaining dates.
Our collective agreement (CA) expires in less than three months – on March 31, 2021. By giving the employer notice to bargain, our current CA will remain in force throughout bargaining, even if negotiations continue past the Mar. 31 expiry date.
Your bargaining team is preparing to meet along with the leaders of your division and all of your locals for the final demand set conference on Saturday, Jan. 23.
