We mourn two dead and 21 wounded – victims of hate in Oslo’s Friday night attack. We feel deep pain for the victims, their families and loved ones. We feel sorrow that people throughout the world continue to be victims of violence and homophobia.
As we reflect on the history of Pride, we recognize its continued importance today; it’s why we also celebrate. In Oslo, hundreds of people marched on Saturday while shouting: “We’re here, we’re queer, we won’t disappear!” Throughout Ontario, we celebrate as well. By marching in pride parades, we are celebrating our bodies and our lives. Hate won’t stop us. Violence won’t stop us.
We will continue to rise in solidarity with the global queer community. OPSEU/SEFPO is an ally in the fight for justice. We are working to make every space welcoming, accepting and inclusive.
Together we will triumph against hate and homophobia.
