Each May, we’re reminded of the invaluable contribution that nurses make in our lives, and in the lives of our family members, friends, and our communities – that’s what Nurses’ Week – from May 7 – 13 – is all about!
At OPSEU we are proud to represent thousands of nurses, including nurse practitioners, Registered Nurses (RNs), and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs). We know that all of them play a vital role in our province’s health care system.
We also know that nurses deserve our thanks, not just this week, but every week. Every day, Ontario’s nurses are working tirelessly to provide top notch care to patients in communities both large and small, rural and urban, and in every corner of this province.
As a Registered Practical Nurse myself, I can vouch for the fact that a nurse’s work never ends. You can’t just leave your work at the office; your work stays with you. That’s because your work is people’s lives – it’s their health, wellbeing, and often, their darkest hours.
It takes a truly resilient, and compassionate person to be a nurse; it takes patience, professionalism, and stamina too.
So to each and every nurse in each and every workplace in this province, thank you!
In Solidarity,
Warren (Smokey) Thomas
