This is Our Unified Era – Bargaining Update

Your OPS Unified bargaining team is continuing negotiations on Essential and Emergency Services agreements (EESA). These EESA agreements have not been completed in more than 20 years and require detailed assessment of every duty of every essential job our members do.

No strike or lockout can happen until these agreements are completed. A lot has changed over the past 20 years – from the Ministries we work in to the technology we use – and your bargaining team is working diligently to ensure EESAs are being completed to reflect these changes.

Once we complete EESA negotiations, OPS Unified will be in a stronger position as we enter issues bargaining. It will give us the power to initiate workplace action as soon as our members are ready should the employer refuse to negotiate a fair deal.

This power is further strengthened when members are active throughout the bargaining process – and we are so pleased to have mobilizers working around the province to engage members and build power in OPS Unified! Please join us as we applaud their hard work and commitment and be sure to invite a mobilizer to your local GMM and events.

FXT/ Seasonal Working Group

FXT stands for Fixed Term Unclassified. FXT members are part of our OPS Unified Bargaining Unit, and they also include Seasonal members. We’re excited to announce that – for the first time – we are launching an FXT working group!

As per the bargaining procedures, the FXT working group will foster communication and develop strategies amongst FXT members and liaise with the bargaining team. They will also work to mobilize fellow FXT members to engage with our Demand Set Survey and throughout the bargaining process.

Stay tuned … an FXT bulletin will be published soon to inform and engage FXT members on issues most important to them.

A speech bubble with a megaphone and the words 'Did you know?'

FXT members account for approximately 47% of our members. Shocking, eh!

Demand Set Survey Coming Soon

As we continue preparations for issues bargaining, we are working with Stratcom to develop our Demand Set Survey. This is a crucial tool that your bargaining team will use to shape the priorities in negotiations for our upcoming contract. It’s essential that all our voices are heard — your input directly influences the priorities at the bargaining table. We will be launching this survey shortly so please stay tuned!

To ensure maximum participation, we are asking all OPS Unified members to make sure that the email address OPSEU/SEFPO has on file is a current personal/private email. If you are unsure which email OPSEU/SEFPO has on file please reach out to the President of your Local and/or a Mobilizer.

Your participation in the Demand Set Survey is extremely important as we prepare for issues bargaining – so please ensure that your information is up to date!

As we will be launching the Demand Set Survey in the lead-up to summer, we are looking to maximize the participation of all OPS Unified members – including summer and seasonal staff who will be actively employed during the survey period. These are valuable voices that we are committed to representing at the bargaining table.

Make sure to participate and help drive the changes that matter to you.

Fun and games

In OPS Unified, I start with proposals, pass through tension, end in a handshake—or a strike, after a few years of enforcement; I start again no matter what. What am I?
