In April 2022, the OPSEU/SEFPO Convention passed a constitutional amendment which included new language in Article 4 (the Union’s aims and purposes) to actively identify and dismantle anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism and all forms of racism and discrimination within its structure so that all members have full access to services and can fully participate in the Union.
This amendment underlines the need for drastic changes within the Union, and employers across the province, and it is incumbent on all of us to lead the changes needed to tear down systemic barriers and all forms of racism and discrimination.
On April 29, 2023, elected delegates will come together to discuss the upcoming round of bargaining for the renewal of the collective agreement that expires March 31, 2024. During the Pre-Bargaining conference, in accordance with Negotiation Procedures, the delegates will look at the results of this survey to determine the issues of the membership to prepare for bargaining.
This process is to identify the thoughts and wishes of the members prior to the Local and final demand-setting processes.
We encourage you to participate in this survey as one of the ways you can be involved in the negotiation process. The survey results will serve as a guide to members with respect to setting realistic, purposeful and constructive proposals for our next Collective Agreement.
Survey results will also go to your elected LBED provincial bargaining team, who will summarize the results by each Local, as well as provincially. This summary will be brought to the Local demand-setting meetings in June and July, 2023, and a copy will also be given to each Local. We strongly encourage you to attend your Local demand-setting meetings to help determine bargaining priorities for your Local.
Give each of the items in the Survey a rating using the following guidelines:
Highest Priority: I feel strongly enough about this issue to take action to obtain it. For example, I’d be willing to attend a rally, press conference or other community event, leaflet my workplace or, if necessary, picket to win on this issue.
Medium Priority: I feel strongly enough about this issue to participate in workplace activities to obtain it, such as signing a petition, attending a meeting, wearing a button or talking to fellow co-workers.
Low Priority: I feel this issue may be important but not as important as other issues
This survey will only take a few minutes to complete, and the information that is collected will be treated as anonymous and confidential. Please include your non-work email address with your response to receive member-only bargaining updates. Your personal information will be stripped of your responses to ensure anonymity and will be used for communication and mobilizing purposes.
There are two ways to fill out the Pre-Bargaining Survey.
1. Electronically through Survey Monkey by the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VQJ8W3L
2. Paper copies of this survey then submitted to your local Steward or President by Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 4 p.m.
