Last week OPSEU and the entire labour movement in Ontario suffered a great loss with the death of Lisa McCaskell, Senior Health & Safety Officer in the Legal Services Division at OPSEU. Lisa passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Lisa began her career at OPSEU on September 13, 1999. She was highly respected and a leading voice at many tables, forums, conferences and publications. Lisa was an unwavering advocate for safe workplaces and for the right to be protected from work related injuries and illnesses. She undoubtedly helped make workplaces better and safer for countless Ontarians.
For those that had the opportunity to interact with her personally, she was wonderfully kind. Known to face challenges head on, with compassion, grace and a positive outlook, Lisa was practical and pragmatic and always solutions-focused. Lisa was a cherished friend of many and will be sadly missed by her many friends, co-workers, industry colleagues, staff-retirees and members of OPSEU.
Lisa is survived by her spouse Pedro Gallache.
