OPSEU joined the Educational Resource Facilitators of Peel (ERFP) on the picket line today to show solidarity with striking education partners.
The show of support – outside the Peel District School Board offices in Mississauga – was part of a province-wide one-day strike by teachers and educational support staff who are protesting cuts to education by the Ford government. This was just the latest in a number of rotating strikes that have been happening in Ontario, but the first that featured simultaneous walk outs by teacher unions across the province.
Over the course of the one-day strikes, which started in December, OPSEU has supported all teachers and educational support workers. For this occasion, ERFP invited OPSEU to take part on the front lines and the union gladly accepted.
ERFP – whose members are mainly women and some of the lowest paid educational support workers in the province – is an affiliate of OPSEU.
