Dear friends,
Like many people who are learning more about the devastating results of Tuesday’s massive explosion in Beirut, I am filled with a sense of grief and concern.
I can only imagine how this tragedy has further traumatized those who have already endured decades of violence. COVID-19 has increased global insecurity and anxiety on so many levels. To have this happen on top is unthinkable. To those directly affected in Lebanon, their families here in Ontario and abroad, OPSEU stands with you during this painful time and we send our sincere prayers that your loved ones and friends are safe, and that more people will be found and rescued.
To our OPSEU members who have loved ones in Beirut, please know that your union is here to support you. If you need us, please reach out.
We are in this together.
Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU President
