OPSEU Region 1 Regional Vice-President Len Elliott wasted no time Thursday when he told MPPs what to do with proposed changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Act: scrap them entirely. In remarks to the legislative committee studying Bill 70 (Budget Measures), Elliott said a Liberal plan that would let employers avoid surprise safety inspections by Ministry of Labour inspectors was a threat to the life, health and safety of every worker in the province.
"If this goes through," Elliott told MPPs, "you may have to look a parent, spouse, or the child of a dead worker in the eye and tell them YOU kept the Ministry of Labour inspectors out of their family member's workplace."
