The Renfrew Mercury is reporting on the rally held May 26 to protest the proposed layoffs of some 14 child protection workers at Family and Children’s Services of Renfrew County.
Members of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 459, the union which represents workers at the agency, were stationed at offices in Renfrew and Pembroke.
“The loss of these positions will significantly erode access to services for families already experiencing varying levels of social marginalization across Renfrew County,” said Nicole Dennison, president of Local 459. “If these reckless cuts are made, families are going to suffer and children will be put at serious risk.”
