On behalf of OPSEU’s Executive Board and all of our members, we’d like to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of Prerit Dixit.

Prerit, who was a member of OPSEU Local 545 at Public Health Ontario’s Provincial Laboratories, died in Sunday’s Ethiopian Airlines crash along with his wife, two teenaged daughters, and his mother- and father-in-law.

The loss of Prerit and so many members of his family is devastating for all who knew and loved them. He was well liked and respected at Public Health Ontario.

The President of OPSEU Local 545, Shah Nawaz, reached out to Prerit’s co-workers and asked them to share some of their memories of him:

“Prerit was a polite, kind-hearted person who was always eager to contribute to our day in any capacity that was required.  He was never without a smile on his face.  His pride in his family was evident whenever he spoke of them. Prerit will be greatly missed by all of us.”

“We laughed every day, that’s how funny he is, and he made my day so happy with his jokes. I will miss him so much.”

“He is very wise, calm, respectful, dedicated, helpful, funny, full of life, and he liked to enjoy all kinds of sweets. He was connected with everyone, and very near and dear to all of us.

“I will never forget my fond memories of Prerit. He was one of the funniest people to be around. He was able to effortlessly make everyone else have a good time. You will always be in our heart and prayers, dear brother.”

“I remember him always smiling. He was a strong advocate of health and safety, he was known for his sense of humor, professionalism and dedication to his family.”

We are incredibly saddened by the death of Prerit and his family – it’s a profound loss for all of us.

In solidarity,

OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas
