A message from the Region 5 Coalition of Racialized Workers:

The Region 5 Coalition of Racialized Workers elected for a two-year term the following executive leadership team during an April 13, 2019 General Membership Meeting held at the Toronto Regional Office.

Kola Iluyomade, Chair
Marjorie Nelson, Vice-Chair
Attasha Jordan, Treasurer
Luisa Lampitoc, Secretary

Kola Iluyomade, Region 5 Coalition Chair, proclaimed “Region 5, Come Alive” as the slogan for the new leadership team and identified as top priorities for the new term:

  1. Promoting the human rights of OPSEU members
  2. Telling their own stories of struggles as racialized members to address their invisibility within and outside the union
  3. Engaging in membership outreach to organize and mobilize racialized members
  4. Building alliances within and beyond the region and the union with racialized communities

Iluyomade begins his term as Chair confident that “these priorities are in alignment with the strategic plan of the Provincial Coalition of Racialized Workers, to which Region 5 remains accountable.”

“I thank the outgoing executive for their past contribution and look forward to working with the newly elected leadership team from Region 5 to build a stronger and more effective voice for all racialized OPSEU members,” adds Peter Thompson, Chair of the OPSEU Coalition of Racialized Workers.
