Prescription opioid deaths have doubled in the past 10 years

  • Canada is the second-largest per capita consumer of prescription opioids
  • From 2005-06 to 2010-11, there was an almost 250 per cent increase in emergency room visits related to prescription narcotic abuse in Ontario
  • 25 per cent of all Ontario students have used non-prescribed prescription pain relievers

What to do with your prescriptions:

  • Secure and monitor all prescription drugs
  • Dispose or return all outdated medication to a pharmacy
  • Speak to your children about drug use and abuse

In the event of an emergency, call 911
