Protest tells Naidoo-Harris: Speak up to keep Milton ServiceOntario office open

Milton – Members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union will demonstrate Wednesday to call on local MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris to help stop the closure of the ServiceOntario outlet in Milton and others across Ontario.

Date: Wednesday, June 29, 2016
Time: 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m.
Place: 2800 Highpoint Drive, Milton, Ontario

"We are gathering to send a message to Indira Naidoo-Harris, and the Liberal government, that our ServiceOntario offices are not theirs to close," said OPSEU Executive Board Member Drew Finucane. "ServiceOntario belongs to the people of Ontario. We own it, and we intend to keep it."

The ServiceOntario office at 2800 Highpoint Drive had been slated to close on October 28, along with nine others across the province. But in the face of fierce public opposition, the government announced that it would review its plans and put the closures on hold until further notice.

OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas said Indira Naidoo-Harris's seat at the cabinet table means that she has a strong voice to protect frontline services right across the province.

"I’m asking the minister to listen to her constituents, both those who work in these offices and those who rely on them for vital services each and every day. Minister – our Ontario communities depend on these offices. A delay isn’t enough for these communities. It’s time to commit to keeping our ServiceOntario centres open.”
