PRHC clerical workers to rally against wage freeze

The Peterborough Examiner is reporting on the rally that OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas and OPSEU First Vice-President / Treasurer Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida will be attending on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in support of the OPSEU Local 345 members who are being targeted with a wage freeze.

“It’s not OK to freeze anyone’s wages. The CEO’s wages aren’t frozen,” Thomas is quoted as saying.

98 per cent of the members in Local 345 — who perform vital clerical work at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre — are women. The employer wants to freeze the wages of the vast majority of them for up to eight years.

“I find that offensive,” Thomas is quoted as saying. “Actually, it’s a pay cut. The cost of living goes up, right?”
