President Thomas is ‘proud to be part of the solution’ as he receives first shot of COVID-19 vaccine

OPSEU/SEFPO President Warren (Smokey) Thomas says vaccination is Ontario’s best shot at overcoming the COVID-19 crisis, and he’s proud to be part of the solution, receiving his first shot in the arm.

Thomas received his first shot on Monday at a Toronto public health vaccination centre.

Thomas is encouraging all OPSEU/SEFPO members – and Ontarians – to get their shots as soon as possible and to support the vaccination effort by talking to family and friends and encouraging them to do the same.

“The vaccine is absolutely our best shot at recovery,” said Thomas. “With so much anti-this and anti-that chatter, it’s important we rise above the noise by focusing on all the reasons for vaccination. There’s no doubt that getting vaccinated saves lives and should be our number one priority on the road to overcoming this pandemic.”

OPSEU/SEFPO recently launched an ad campaign to support Ontario’s vaccine rollout; it’s a simple, yet powerful image that Thomas hopes will remind people that we’ve been through this pandemic together, and that the way out of this is together too.

“Ontario needs a shot in the arm to defeat this pandemic,” said Thomas.

“As President of OPSEU/SEFPO, it’s my duty to lead the way,” said Thomas. “And not just by getting vaccinated, but by continuing to advocate for front-line workers; to demand paid sick days and a vaccination rollout plan that puts front-line heroes first.”
