Toronto – Thousands of education workers in Peel Region are joining forces with OPSEU in the face of the threat that Premier Doug Ford poses to working people. The Executive of the Educational Resource Facilitators of Peel (ERFP), have opted to affiliate with OPSEU, which is welcomed by OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas.
“We’re delighted to team up with these dedicated members to protect jobs and fight for things like better working conditions and wages,” said Thomas. “Workers in education are increasingly turning to OPSEU and this partnership continues the momentum that has been building since we were given the green light last year to represent 20-thousand part-time college support workers.”
Hilary Campbell, president of ERFP, said OPSEU is a fantastic ally to have in the fight against Ford. “There is strength in numbers and we look forward to being backed by the resources and the profile that come with one of the largest and most successful unions in Canada,” Campbell said. ERFP members are frontline support workers, teaching assistants and early childhood educators who work tirelessly with some of our most vulnerable students every day.
Thomas welcomes ERFP members into the fold. He says it’s also welcome news for OPSEU members as they gather for their annual convention this week in Toronto.
“Since the theme of Convention is indivisible it’s so fitting that these ERFP members are standing with us,” said Thomas. “And to those workers who want to join in with us in protecting our cherished public services, give us a call, we’ve left the porch light on for you.”
