This week, a delegation of 125 Peel paramedics from OPSEU/SEFPO Local 277 showed up, in uniform, to the Peel Regional Council meeting to bring attention to the vital services being threatened by Doug Ford’s dissolution plans. The members were joined by community groups and workers represented by CUPE 966.
On the agenda – a motion for Peel Regional Council to write to Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs, calling for a safe, reliable, and unified Peel Paramedic Service instead of splitting workers, assets, bases and infrastructure between Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.
With the delegation of paramedics present for the vote, the motion passed, but with a single abstention from Mayor Bonnie Crombie, who was not present.
