Paid blood donation back in the news – OPSEU stands firmly against

OPSEU’s cautionary warning to the Ontario government that it not open up the province’s blood and plasma industry to private interests is a driving force behind an August 13 CBC story.

“We’ve been reminded through the COVID-19 Pandemic just how important national self-sufficiency is,” the article quoted OPSEU CBS and Diagnosics Chair Geoff Cain as saying. “Canadians know their blood and plasma collections should never be products to be sold to the highest bidder in the global marketplace. The safety and security of the nation’s health is the priority, not the profit of big multinational corporations.”
