OPSEU picked up five first-place awards at this year’s Canadian Association of Labour Media awards banquet held June 19 in Victoria, B.C. The five top honours awarded to OPSEU were more than any other union.
Local 588 representing academic staff at Centennial College was awarded two top finishes in the categories Best Website Content, and Excellence in Writing for Print.
OPSEU’s In Solidarity magazine for stewards and member activists also scooped up a pair of awards including the Katie FitzRandolph Award for Best Overall Print Publication, and Excellence in Print Layout and Design.
In Solidarity editorial board members Virginia Ridley (CAS London Local 116), Craig Hadley (LCBO Toronto Local 5109) and Verne Saari (Hospital Professionals Sudbury Local 659) were in attendance at the banquet to receive their awards.
OPSEU also won in the category of The Freeperson Award for Best Cartoon, Illustration or Infographic. OPSEU took top honours for a carcicature of former Progressive Conservative Tim Hudak and his pledge during the 2014 provincial election campaign to create one million jobs while cutting 100,000 public sector workers.
