Toronto – More than 240 diagnostic imaging staff with the William Osler Health System are the newest members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). The workers voted to unionize on June 8.
The Osler workers join a large and growing number of diagnostic professionals represented by Ontario’s largest public sector union. Sara Labelle, chair of OPSEU’s Hospital Professionals Division, believes that was a major driver in their choosing OPSEU.
“They’re joining a large group of professionals who are already represented by OPSEU. All around them, they saw evidence of the privatization of diagnostic services. With all the uncertainties in health funding, they needed and wanted a union that was a strong and proven advocate for excellent health care services.”
Warren (Smokey) Thomas was delighted to hear that Osler workers had placed their trust in OPSEU.
“Hundreds of diagnostic imaging staff at William Osler have said yes to better job protection, yes to a better workplace, yes to a better quality of life,” said Thomas. “I warmly congratulate them on their decision and welcome them to the OPSEU family.”
The William Osler Health System, which includes Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital, is the province’s largest community hospital. It serves a diverse population of about 1.3 million.
