Laboratory assistants from across southwestern Ontario have voted overwhelmingly for OPSEU as their union of choice following a representation vote earlier this month.

“We’re thrilled to welcome our newest members to the OPSEU family,” said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “OPSEU is Ontario’s leading union for laboratory professionals. These members deserve top-notch representation and that’s exactly what OPSEU delivers.”

The newly-organized group of lab professionals work at 16 different Dynacare locations stretching across Ontario’s southwestern region, from Windsor to Stratford. Dynacare is a medical laboratory services company, providing blood and other medical tests at locations across Ontario and Canada.

“OPSEU provides strength, experience and leadership at the bargaining table and beyond,” said OPSEU Region 1 Regional Vice-President Len Elliott. “In our current political climate, it’s important that these professionals have the protection of a union that understands their issues and that will fight for their interests every single day. By joining OPSEU, these members have joined the A-Team.”

President Thomas noted that joining OPSEU is a smart move for all health professionals.

“There are storm clouds forming on the horizon,” said Thomas. “Joining OPSEU is a smart plan for health care professionals and all public sector employees. It’s the best way to weather the impending storm, and to stand up to Ford’s anti-worker, pro-privatization agenda.

“To all our newest members, welcome home to OPSEU.”
