In a Toronto Sun article today, OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas says there are no reasons other than corporate greed and desires of privatization for LCBO stores in the province to continue closing on Mondays.
Since the pandemic began, sales are up significantly and the LCBO profit margins are higher with a six rather than seven-day operation, the paper reports.
OPSEU represents LCBO workers in Ontario who are losing out on wages due to the reduced hours.
“It’s also helping the move to privatization as agency and private retailers continue to supply product on Mondays,” Thomas said in the article. “Ontario profits going directly to private retailers.”
