OPSEU to ‘turn the heat up’ on Family Health owners

During a rally in support of the striking workers in Local 276, OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas pledged to “turn the heat up” on the doctors who own the Family Health Organization.

“On behalf of the workers, we will turn the heat up on the owners,” Thomas told Blackburn News

Thomas was joined at the rally by dozens of people, including OPSEU Regional Vice-President Lucy Morton, OPSEU Executive Board Member Janel Perron, and representatives of the Grey-Bruce Labour Council and a number of other union locals.

Along with the Blackburn News coverage, the rally was front-page news in the Owen Sound Sun Times and was also covered by Bayshore Broadcasting, CKNX, and The Owen Sound Hub also covered the event.

The roughly 30 nurses and office workers in OPSEU Local 276 have been on strike since May 22 over low wages they make less than workers doing similar work at other clinics in the region.
