OPSEU Statement – ‘Essential Services’

Today, the Ford government announced the province will be stepping up the state of emergency to include the operation of “essential services” only, effective 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

OPSEU is awaiting word of what businesses and employers are covered by the term. While it’s tempting to rely on the traditional definition of “essential services,” in these unique circumstances, the term “essential” is evolving. Please check with your respective employers if you have questions.

In the interim, OPSEU is working minute by minute with the government and various employers to provide you with more specific information as it becomes available. Rest assured that OPSEU is working diligently to protect the health and safety of all OPSEU members, your families and the people of Ontario.
