We admire the dedication of young people who are taking part in the September 20 Global Climate Strike Day.  It kicks off a week of action as people take to the streets to demand environmental justice in Canada and beyond.

We’re pleased to see so many young people joining the fight for a healthy and sustainable future by calling on their governments to take meaningful action to address the climate crisis.

We know there can be no social justice without environmental justice; when all people have access to clean air and drinking water and a safe place to live, free from the devastating consequences of natural disasters like flooding and fires that are made worse by human activity.

The time to act is running out and it’s our young people’s future that hangs in the balance – it’s no wonder they’re at the forefront of this entire movement.

This week, we encourage members and OPSEU’s young workers to get involved by joining a local rally, talking to others in their workplace and community and taking our message of solidarity to social media. We also encourage everyone to join the Rally for Climate at Queen’s Park next Friday, September 27 starting at 11 a.m.

As a social justice union, we believe in taking care of our land, our environment and each other. We will continue to stand with our young leaders and activists in the fight for a better future.

In Solidarity,
