OPSEU/SEFPO’s region 5 caucus of the Coalition of Racialized Workers (CoRW) presents its 5th annual Black Mental Health event.

Mental health issues are a real significant problem, but most significantly, within Black communities. Black Canadians deal with significant social and economic challenges that create negative impacts on their mental health. Experiences of racism, physical, verbal, and indirect stressors like seeing videos of police brutality on social media or being the target of micro-aggressive comments and opinions all contribute to racial trauma.

In addition, many frontline workers are Black.  They are unable to take time off or work from home because they are deemed essential workers.  As a result, there has been a rise in anxiety, stress, burnout, and other mental health related issues.

Join members of CoRW as they work to bring greater awareness on the issues of Black mental health and provide the necessary resources that will help people get the support they need.   In addition, this symposium will aim to remove the stigma that mental illness is often a silent that is not openly talked about in Black communities.
