OPSEU/SEFPO condemns the detention of President of SEIU California, David Huerta, who was violently apprehended as he stood as an observer during an Immigration and Customs enforcement (ICE) raid in Los Angeles.
This detention is part of the Trump administration’s ongoing attempts to silence dissent and create an atmosphere of intimidation, as workers and communities fight for their rights to be upheld.
As working people, we know our struggles are all interconnected. If they come for immigrants, if they come for those standing peacefully in solidarity with those under attack, they can – and will – come for all of us.
The labour movement historically has played a critical role in defending the rights, dignity and justice of all working people – and this work is now more important than ever.
OPSEU/SEFPO stands in solidarity with those exercising their right to protest, demands the release of all others who are being unjustly detained without due process, and calls for an end to the raids and for the charges against David Huerta to be dropped.
