At OPSEU/SEFPO, we are building an organizing union powerful enough to meet the moment in which we are all living.

We are in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, and workers are feeling the pressure every day. Whether it’s groceries, gas, utilities or rent – everything is getting more expensive. Many workers are finding their pay cheques just aren’t going far enough.

Yet grocery chains are making record profits and our government is keen to make their CEOs even richer, putting our public services at risk at the same time.

At every turn, there’s a new sell-off scheme in the making. Whether it’s privatizing surgeries, selling off Greenbelt lands or undermining Ontario’s most lucrative public asset, the LCBO, the story is the same: another attempt at a multi-billion-dollar giveaway from our public coffers to Ford’s friends and the people who put him in office.

Workers have had enough. We’re ready to demand better. That’s why we are organizing, we are fighting back, and we are winning.

Last year, we were on the brink of a general strike in this province. Education workers reminded us all of our collective power. Well-organized and united, they took on the Ford government and defeated anti-union legislation.

We saw what was possible when workers across Ontario come together. And we’ll do it again.

People across the province see what we’re doing, and they want to be a part of our movement. They’re joining OPSEU/SEFPO! This year, we welcomed thousands of new members to our union.

These new members include education workers, community health care workers, mental health workers, hospital professionals, lab technicians, long-term care workers, and more. We can’t wait to work with you, and to build our solidarity!

When we organize and bring new members into our union, we build worker power. And we’re doing that in every corner of this province, so that we can take on the Ford government’s anti-worker agenda. We need every one of our more than 180,000 members, the rest of the labour movement, and our communities fighting alongside one another to take back this province.

This is the moment for working people. What started as a “hot labour summer” turned into a ‘Solidarity Season’. Members of the United Auto Workers held a historic stand-up strike and won historic gains. And they didn’t stop there, now they’ve launched a massive organizing drive at non-union auto manufacturers. Right now, 420,000 public sector workers in Quebec are prepared to launch an unlimited strike for better working conditions in public health care and education.

At OPSEU/SEFPO we’re ready to meet the moment. We are a movement, and together we are unstoppable.

In solidarity,

JP Hornick, President
Laurie Nancekivell, First Vice-President/Treasurer
