Last week, education workers with the Peel District School Board – members of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 2100, showed the impact of organizing worker power when the results of their strike vote were released.

Nearly 80% of the 4000 members participated in the vote, with 98% voting in favour of strike action. This sends a clear message to their employer that they’ve had enough of them dragging their heels in bargaining and disrespecting members both at the table and in their everyday work.

In the weeks leading up to the vote, members hosted phone banks, texted one another and leafleted outside their schools to mobilize a supermajority of members ready to vote YES to strike action.

Multiple news outlets covered the story and Local President Melody Hurtubise provided numerous interviews.
