Education workers represented by OPSEU/SEFPO were heartened by the 96.5% strike vote announced today by their fellow education workers in OSBCU/CUPE. With a turnout of more than 80%, CUPE education workers sent their bargaining team to the table with a formidable strike mandate behind their demands.
“This is the kind of solidarity all workers need to stand up to this government and win at the bargaining table,” said JP Hornick, OPSEU/SEFPO President. “Congratulations to OSBCU/CUPE members for standing behind their completely reasonable demands. We stand with you.”
OPSEU/SEFPO education workers are also in bargaining right now, as part of the Ontario Council of Educational Workers (OCEW). The OCEW representatives for OPSEU/SEFPO, Sandra Cadeau and Kelly Martin, shared their congratulations on behalf of all OPSEU/SEFPO education workers.
“We celebrate in solidarity with our fellow education workers in OSBCU/CUPE,” said Sandra Cadeau, also the Boards of Education Sector Chair for OPSEU/SEFPO. “Their strength and courage shows how important their demands are to their members. Minister Lecce and Premier Ford, it is time to come to our tables with respect and recognition for education workers in Ontario.”
“We stand together with OSBCU/CUPE to advocate for the issues that are important to all education workers,” added Kelly Martin, Local 330 President. “Education workers deserve fair wages and safe working conditions. Living in poverty is no longer acceptable!”
The next bargaining date for OCEW, which includes OPSEU/SEFPO education workers, will be October 24, 2022.
