Canada’s House of Labour has spoken, choosing Team Unite for the leadership of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). Members of the team include newly elected President Bea Bruske, Secretary-Treasurer Lily Chang and Executive Vice-President Siobhan Vipond.
On behalf of OPSEU/SEFPO’s Executive Board and all 180,000 members of our union family, congratulations to the members of Team Unite!
As a dynamic team with a diversity of skills and experience, there is no doubt that the CLC’s new leadership will serve Canada’s labour movement – and all Canadian workers – well.
As a longstanding advocate for workers and their families, Bea Bruske brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table that will serve her well in the arena of federal politics. With her history as a labour activist and leader with the United Food and Commercial Workers’ Union (UFCW), she will undoubtedly be a force for unity within the labour movement, as we continue to face the challenges of Canada’s post-COVID 19 recovery.
For many years, our union has worked closely with Canada’s House of Labour to achieve meaningful gains for workers and all Canadians. We look forward to fostering new relationships as we continue our important work together; in building solidarity – and ultimately working people’s power – in our collective, and ongoing, fight for fairness and equality for all.
We congratulate outgoing President Hassan Yussuff on his well-earned retirement and thank him for his exemplary leadership and service to the labour movement and the country.
The future looks bright, and we look forward to the road ahead with Bea Bruske and Team Unite at the helm.
In Solidarity,
Warren (Smokey) Thomas
OPSEU/SEFPO President
Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida
OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer
