OPSEU represents thousands of employees in the mental health sector. You will find them in workplaces like the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, in Whitby, Providence Care Mental Health Services, in Kingston, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), in Toronto, to name just a few.
We are therefore proud to sponsor The Sashbear Foundation in its 5K Borderline Walk in Toronto on Sunday, May 28. The walk will help raise awareness about Emotion Dysregulation, including Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
Sadly, OPSEU members who work in mental health facilities know that suicide among teens is at an all-time high. When statistics show that one out of every five children is diagnosed with a mental health disorder, it means that all Canadians likely know a young person who is struggling with this illness.
Some of our staff and members volunteer at The Sashbear Foundation, an organization which provides unique tools, skills and support to families, youth, schools and communities to prevent suicide, improve relationships, eliminate the stigma of mental illness, and raise awareness of children’s mental health.
