OPSEU has joined with Ontario’s other democratic unions in a bid to stop the provincial government’s cuts and privatizations by putting pressure on backbench Conservative MPPs, according to CBC Toronto.

OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas tells CBC that while Premier Doug Ford “doesn’t seem to care” about protests, “his backbenchers will care.”

“In my union, what we’ve been doing is we’re trying to get meetings with backbenchers, stoking that discontent among the backbenchers,” Thomas told CBC Toronto during an Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) conference on March 25.

“We know that politicians don’t like it in their home ridings when they’re having the heat turned up on them,” said OFL president Chris Buckley in an interview.
