On Wednesday June 24, OPSEU held it’s first-ever “virtual rally” in an effort to raise awareness of the Liberal government’s plan to privatize 60 per cent of Hydro One.
Thousands of OPSEU members, allies and other concerned Ontarians tweeted Premier Kathleen Wynne, Deputy Premier Deb Matthews and Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli to tell them to stop the sale of Hydro One.
“I can’t thank enough all of the OPSEU members that took the time to tweet the Premier and express their opposition to her wrong-headed plan to privatize Hydro One” said OPSEU president Warren (Smokey) Thomas.
“The level of support for this action shows just how deeply Ontarians are opposed to the fire sale of Hydro One.”
Current polls show that Ontarians oppose the sale of Hydro One by a margin of three to one, and opposition grows by the day.
“Kathleen Wynne has no mandate to sell Hydro One and it’s absolutely crucial that we take every opportunity to voice our opposition” said Thomas.
“If the government is permitted to privatize our electricity grid we will pay more, get less and lose control of a key public asset. We can’t allow this to happen.”
