Toronto – Members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) will be joining masses of folks from across the province on Saturday for the Rally for Decent Work at Queen’s Park.

Date: Saturday, October 1
Time: OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas speaks at 12:15 p.m. Rally starts at 1:00 p.m.
Place: Queen’s Park, Toronto

The day has been organized and endorsed by a number of labour and workers’ rights groups, including OPSEU, the campaign for $15 and Fairness, as well as the Ontario Federation of Labour through its Make it Fair campaign.

Union members are pressing the provincial government for stronger minimum employment standards, rules that make it easier to join and keep a union, rules to protect vulnerable and precarious workers, and a $15 minimum wage.

“This is our time to mobilize,” said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “We have the government’s ear, and we need to shout in it: stand up for Ontarians. Stop allowing and even facilitating the disintegration of good jobs.”

Buses will be coming in to the event from all over the province. The day will include an address by President Thomas at the pre-rally event at 12:15 p.m., as well as various family-friendly activities.
