We condemn the senseless shooting at the Chabad of Poway in California and extend our deepest condolences to the victims and their families.
We also honour the bravery of Lori Kaye who was killed in the attack.
According to media reports Ms. Kaye placed herself between the gunman and Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, quite possibly saving his life. Her courage is remarkable and our thoughts are with her friends and family.
It is unacceptable that people’s lives should ever be in danger in a place of worship and Saturday’s shooting is another reason why we must denounce such violence and hatred in all of its forms.
OPSEU believes in peace and acceptance and those who have nothing to offer but hate will not win.
We stand in solidarity with the members of the synagogue who were forced to endure this terrible and traumatic event.
