OPS Table Talk 2015 Issue 36 – Members given options for ratification vote

The ratification vote on the recent tentative agreement will take place on Tuesday, December 8 and Wednesday, December 9 in Correctional facilities and OPSEU regional offices.

Voting at Correctional facilities will take place between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on both days.

Voting at OPSEU regional offices will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. on both days.

All information will be posted on the OPSEU website this week. Local notices will also be posted in workplaces.

Voting in facilities

Arrangements for the ratification vote are being finalized at each Correctional facility. We have asked local presidents to make arrangements with their local superintendent so that the vote can take place in their facility.

It is crucial that each local president confirm arrangements as soon as possible. Local presidents, please let your staff representative know the details, and copy the Corrections bargaining team.

Institutions voting at regional offices

Institutions members who prefer not to vote in their Correctional facility may vote at their nearest OPSEU regional office. You may also vote at a location closer to your facility by arrangement with your staff representative.

Please check the website for any modified hours, as requested by your local president.

Community voting at facilities

Community Corrections members may be authorized to vote at Correctional facilities on a local‑by‑local basis. Where this is possible, it will be posted on the OPSEU website. Where the superintendent has not allowed this, Community members must vote at an OPSEU regional office.

Voting out of region

Members who are working out of their own region may vote at the closest vote location outside their workplace and region. These members will need to be on the membership listings and must present photo ID.

Ballots of members who vote outside their own region will be placed in the Local 999 ballot box and counted as part of the vote.

Voting by mail

Members may also request a mail-in ballot from their regional office. To be counted with the main vote, these ballots must be verified and received on or before December 9.

Members are urged to request a mail in ballot as soon as possible by calling their regional office toll-free at 1-800-268-7376.

Time off to vote

Time off to vote has been arranged. However, members must ensure they have their supervisor’s permission. There may be extenuating operational situations where time off cannot be permitted.

Information sessions

If you are holding an information session and need a team member to attend, please contact OPSEU as soon as possible. Keep in mind that the bargaining team’s availability is limited, but we will make every effort to have a team member attend.
