After more than 12 months at the negotiating table, your Corrections bargaining team has reached a tentative agreement with the Ontario government. Your team unanimously supports the historic tentative deal reached today. It will carry our membership into a new era of bargaining.
The tentative agreement will carry a guarantee of a Corrections-only collective agreement, with arbitration starting in 2018. This will recognize the unique labour challenges that the members of the Corrections bargaining unit face.
The Employer would not budge from its position on wages. However, the team felt the short-term pain of accepting the Unified wage package was a fair trade-off for the long-term gain of a Corrections‑only collective agreement.
Accordingly, members will receive a lump sum equivalent to 1.4 per cent of their salary in 2016. In 2017, they will receive a 1.4 per cent general wage increase. There will be no progression through the salary grid in 2016-17.
Highlights of the three-year deal include:
- compensating time off
- an alternative discipline resolution process committee
- a uniform points system
- compensating leave
- an MCYS self-defence/canteen incentive agreement
- a joint MCSCS/MCYS workload committee (community probation, and probation and parole)
- improved time off for community union leave
- a mediation/arbitration (med/arb) process for community corrections
