Your Corrections Bargaining Team returned to negotiations with the Employer on November 7 and 8. Over the two days, your bargaining team took many items off the table in an attempt to reach a fair tentative agreement.
Unfortunately, negotiations broke off when the Employer refused any agreement not based on accepting the complete Central/Unified wage package. This would have seen a continued wage freeze in 2015, a 1.4 per cent lump sum award in 2016, and a 1.4 per cent wage hike in 2017. There would have been no movement through the salary grid in 2016 or 2017.
The Employer also proposed a version of a Corrections-only standalone collective agreement that would have come into place at the end of the 2015-17 collective agreement. The Employer’s offer was contingent upon the legislature’s approval of amendments to the Crown Employees Collective Bargaining Act, 1993.
In light of members’ dislike of the Central/Unified agreement, as well as the tentative nature of the Corrections-only proposal, your bargaining team felt it did not come close to meeting the bargaining unit’s expectations.
Consequently, your bargaining team is returning to essential and emergency service agreement negotiations.
Thank you for your continued support.
