Ontario hiring more jail staff to address solitary-confinement issues

The Ontario government "is hiring more than 200 staff to focus on prisoners with mental-health needs and inmates in solitary confinement," the Globe and Mail reports. OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas has congratulated corrections minister David Orazietti for listening to frontline workers -- but says hiring 46 new managers takes resources away from those same front lines.
