The OFL’s Occupational Disability Prevention Program – “Prevention Link” is seeking a Regional Coordinator, Training & Development to lead the Prevention Link’s disability prevention training and services efforts. The Regional Coordinator will oversee the delivery of training services to workers and groups of workers, unions, and workplace parties; carry out participatory research and prevention tool development; and engages in knowledge transfer and exchange with workplace parties and the community.

Job Summary

The primary responsibility is to co-ordinate and execute the service delivery objectives of the program and to assist in the development and delivery of the program’s strategic goals.

The qualified candidate will have:

  • 3-5 years of experience and demonstrated knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and related legislation;
  • Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution and negotiation techniques;
  • Knowledge of medical and legal terminology as it relates to occupational health & safety and workplace insurance matters;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • The ability to provide strategic advice to organizations in its many forms;
  • Project management and strategic communications experience;
  • The ability to be a self-starter and work independently;
  • Experience managing competing priorities;
  • A solid understanding of the principles and dynamics of effective Return-to-Work and Disability Prevention strategies;
  • Knowledge of research, analysis and evaluation techniques;
  • Leadership, relationship management, client service, and problem-solving skills to ensure quality service and to bring about successful health & safety outcomes;
  • Proficient knowledge in the use of common office software (eg. spreadsheet, word processing, presentations, graphics, project management);
  • Experience with e-learning programs and platforms;
  • A drivers’ license and car, and
  • Previous experience working in a trade union or not-for-profit environment.
  • *French language skills, and experience delivering hybrid or e-learning instruction will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will oversee a variety of areas related to Prevention Link’s deliverables, including:

Training, Resource Development and Member Relations:

  • Drafting/assisting with the production of curriculum and course materials, project reports, program literature, resources and key messages;
  • Executing Prevention Link’s member engagement strategy, and
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Vulnerable Workers Outreach:
  • Working with Prevention Link’s community partners to ensure access to our target audience that will drive program deliverables;
  • Assisting with the creation and dissemination of Prevention Link’s vulnerable worker outreach – Lighthouse Initiative and working with affiliates and community partners to lead and execute the vulnerable worker outreach program deliverables, and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Disability Prevention Services:

  • Advise and consult organizations, injured workers, survivors, their families and community partners regarding issues and evidence required for a successful and comprehensive disability prevention program and best practices;
  • Provide input in health & safety processes and develop improved procedures;
  • Give advice and educate employers, workers, and worker organizations;
  • Co-ordinate multiple RTW projects, using a case management system, and internal communications strategies, including the creation and maintenance of project websites, and
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Regional Coordinator, Training & Development is a full-time limited term contract position until March 31, 2021, with contract renewals pending funding and approval.

The successful candidate will work out of the Ontario Federation of Labour office in Toronto, or remotely as required. The successful candidate would report to the OFL Officers, via the OFL/ Prevention Link Executive Director, and is covered under the COPE 343 collective agreement, with a weekly salary of $1,889.76 + benefits. The position of Regional Coordinator, Training & Development would begin in July, or as soon as possible.
