Christine Schmidt is very worried the first wave of COVID-19 that hit long-term care homes in southern Ontario hard this spring will be followed by a second wave that hits group homes across Ontario and the developmental services sector people who work in them equally as bad.
“We are one positive case — the people who work in the developmental services sector — one positive case away from a serious crisis,” said the residential case worker at Community Living Greater Sudbury, who is also the president of her Ontario Public Service Employees Union Local 686 and a certified health and safety representative. “The (provincial) government knows that. We are one shift away from a crisis.”
