On World Blood Donor Day, consider donating

On June 14, World Blood Donor Day, we’d like to thank all of the people across Ontario who donate blood. Your small sacrifice of time does an incredible amount of good. The steady supply of donated blood and plasma that our health care system relies on, wouldn’t exist without the thousands of selfless blood donors in this province. You have helped save lives.

As the pandemic has reminded us, the health of any one of us is incredibly fragile. Fortunately, our health care workers can perform what often seem like miracles. They provide quality service every day that keeps our health care system running and keeps our blood supply safe.

We’d like to say a special thanks to all of the OPSEU/SEFPO members working at Canadian Blood Services (CBS). They work hard – many of them on the front lines – to ensure that donating blood is as safe and comfortable as possible. But not only that, many of our members at CBS are also donors themselves. That’s public service at its best.

On behalf of our 180,000 members, and all Ontarians, thank you to everybody who donates blood and to all the workers who help make it happen.

In solidarity,

Warren (Smokey) Thomas

Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida
OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer
