On January 27, OPSEU/SEFPO joins those around the world in commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this important day we must reflect upon the atrocities committed during the Holocaust and take the time to remember and mourn the victims.
We must also take the time to reaffirm our commitment to oppose all forms of anti-Semitism and to the work we must do to ensure history is never repeated.
On this day, we remember the 6 million Jewish people who were murdered in the Holocaust as part of a state-sanctioned genocide. As we reflect on the horrors of the Holocaust, we must remember the stories and experiences of both those who lost their lives and those who survived.
The lessons from the Holocaust about hate and fascism are relevant to us all.
We remember – and we say, never again – for anyone anywhere.
We cannot ignore the recent rise in acts of anti-Semitism around the world, including here in our province. OPSEU/SEFPO condemns these acts of hate and the harm they cause to Jewish members and Jewish members of our communities.
As trade unionists, our commitment to social justice, community, and solidarity are what make us a powerful force against political forces and ideologies based on hate and fear and those who seek to divide us. We must actively organize against all forms of bigotry in our workplaces and our communities.
