Paramedics who work for the newly merged District of Nipissing Paramedic Services have voted overwhelmingly to join OPSEU/SEFPO.
“Paramedics and ambulance communications officers are the unsung heroes of our public health care system – nobody’s closer to the front-lines than them,” said OPSEU/SEFPO President JP Hornick. “At OPSEU/SEFPO, we’re incredibly proud that our Ambulance Division members have always been so active in the fight for better working conditions and better health care for all. With these new members, we’ve all grown stronger.”
The new members work in communities across northeastern Ontario, including Temagami, North Bay, Sturgeon Falls, Mattawa, and Whitney. Before the merger, they had worked for one of three different employers: Temagami Ambulance Service, the North Bay Regional Health Centre, and Mattawa Hospital Ambulance services.
“Because of their hard work and dedication, OPSEU/SEFPO paramedics and ambulance communications officers are a powerful voice at the bargaining table and at Queen’s Park,” said OPSEU/SEFPO Executive Board Member and Ambulance Division Chair Joel Usher. “I’m proud these paramedics in and around Nipissing have voted so strongly in favour of joining us. Welcome!”
