OPSEU is proud to announce that members and staff in Region 7 will soon have a new office in Thunder Bay. The new office will be at 326-330 Memorial Avenue, right beside the Merla-Mae ice cream shop.“I am thrilled that Region 7 will soon have a new and better space to conduct the important business of our union,” said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “This move will not only benefit staff, but will also provide a welcoming environment for members. The new facility will include a Membership Centre that locals will be able to use for meetings, educationals, and other activities,” said Thomas.
The move from the current office at 1201 Amber Drive will fulfil the need for more space and offer immediate cost savings. It means locals will no longer have to rent space to hold their meetings.
“I would like to thank our President Smokey Thomas, First VicePresident/Treasurer Eddy Almeida and the executive board for their support in purchasing a regional office for Region 7,” said Regional Vice-President Carl Thibodeau. “It was a long process and would not have been possible without the help of many others, including staff, who worked behind the scenes.”
The 8,100-square-foot building will need a bit of work before it is move-in ready. Over the coming months, the board will be working closely with staff to ensure a smooth transition to the new site.
The Thunder Bay regional office plans to host a grand opening celebration once everyone is settled in.
