Seeking more transparency and accountability, the 100-plus child treatment professionals at Lansdowne Children’s Centre have voted to join OPSEU/SEFPO.

“Children, teens, and families are struggling as the pandemic wears on, and that makes the work done by our newest members more important than ever,” said OPSEU/SEFPO President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “To these courageous front-line professionals, I’d like to say: welcome to our union. You have a strong new voice on behalf of yourselves and the families you care for.”

Like many, the newest members have endured the slow erosion of things like overtime and vacation accrual. They want to address these problems because they inevitably lead to retention issues, which can impact the children and families in and around Brantford, Dunnville, Caledonia and Simcoe.

“I was born and raised in this part of Ontario – it’s filled with great people and caring families. But some of them face real struggles, and our newest members are trying to help as many as possible,” said OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida.

“Joining a strong union is one of the best ways for front-line professionals to improve the care they provide, and I’m incredibly proud that the professionals at Lansdowne have chosen OPSEU/SEFPO.”
